  PHYSIOTHERAPISTS:
 
PETER deVETTE, B.PT. (NL) - Registered Physiotherapist

PeterPeter is a registered physiotherapist who received his training from the ‘Haagse Adademie voor Fysiotherapy’ in the Hague, Netherlands, graduating in 1987.  He has gone on to take courses in advanced manual therapy (up to E3/V3 level), rehabilitation, science and exercise prescription.  Peter is also an active PT affiliate of the Arthritis Society. 

Before moving to Chilliwack in 1990, Peter worked in a rehabilitation centre in Porto, Portugal renowned for treating amputees.  The first three years in Canada he worked at the Chilliwack General Hospital and for the Fraser Valley Child Development Centre.  In 1993, he co-founded the Fraser Valley  Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre in Chilliwack.

His clinical experience and interest is in treating arthritic conditions, sports injuries and orthopaedic injuries.  Peter’s treatment philosophy includes using a combination of ‘hands on’ therapy (including manual therapy), exercise and traditional modalities (including electrotherapy) to help clients achieve their goals.  When Peter isn’t working, you will find him spending time with his three daughters, volunteering within and outside of the Chilliwack community, or pursuing his fitness activities which include karate, attending the gym, squash, tennis and kendo.

 
REMMERT W. HINLOPEN, B.PT. Registered Physiotherapist

RemmertRemmert graduated in 1989 from Academy of Groningen in the Netherlands with a Bachelors Degree in Physical Therapy.  He immigrated to Chilliwack, B.C., Canada in 1990 and passed the national exam in the spring of 1991.

After 6 months at Vancouver General Hospital and 2 years at Chilliwack General Hospital, he decided together with Peter deVette to open up the Fraser Valley Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre in Chilliwack in 1993.  Since that time he has worked as manager/owner and practitioner at the Clinic.

His interest in the clinic is focused on sports and the elderly.  After his workday is done, the real works starts with coaching his son in hockey and his two daughters in soccer.  When April comes around the corner and the sports wind down, free time will be spent with his family on the lake, river or traveling around the world.

 
JOHN BEESLEY, B.PE., M.PT. Registered Physiotherapist

JohnJohn is a graduate of The University of Alberta with a Master of Physiotherapy from Curtin University in Perth, Australia. 

Prior to moving to Chilliwack, John was the former head trainer of the University of Alberta Men’s Hockey Team and Head Physiotherapist for Junior A Teams in Alberta. 

Areas of interest include sports injuries, return to work injuries and chronic pain.  John uses a manual therapy approach in conjunction with exercise prescription.

 

 

 
MARCIA BOULANGER, P.T., C.A.F.C.I. - Registered Physiotherapist, Registered Canadian Acupuncture Foundation

MarciaI have been working in Chilliwack as a physiotherapist since 1973, running my own clinic for 25 years. 

Since 1998, I have worked part-time for Fraser Valley Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre providing both orthopaedic and acupuncture treatment. 

I took the Medical Acupuncture Certificate Program in 1995-96 at the University of Alberta, where I also took my physiotherapy training.  I was certified by the Canadian Acupuncture Foundation in 1996. 

 

 
CRAIG BRAGGINS, B.Phty, B.HSc. (Podiatry) - Registered Physiotherapist

CraigCraig graduated from the University of Otago in New Zealand in 2001 with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy to go along with his Bachelor of Health Sciences (Podiatry).  After graduation he worked in private practice in New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom before settling in Canada in 2010.  Craig has been a member of the team at Fraser Valley Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre since May 2010.

Craig has attended many post graduate courses, some of which include McKenzie Level A and B, Lyn Watson Shoulder Level 1, and Kinesio Taping KT1 and KT2.  Craig enjoys treating a wide range of orthopaedic conditions, including sports injuries with a love of running injuries and post-operative rehabilitation.  Craig integrates manual therapy with exercise prescription as his main treatment strategies for optimal results. 

Craig has a love for the outdoors, and enjoys running, cycling and surfing.

 
ANGELA FROESE, P.T., C.A.F.C.I. - Registered Physiotherapist, Registered Canadian Acupuncture Foundation

AngelaAngela obtained her Bachelors of Science in Physical Therapy in 2002 from UBC, prior to that she received her Bachelors in Science in Biochemistry.  Since then she has continued to take post graduate training in Manual and Manipulative Therapy through the Canadian Physiotherapy’s Orthopaedic Division Level 3.  As well, Angela has also been certified to practice acupuncture by the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute. 

Angela has experience in all orthopaedic injuries including work, sports and motor vehicle.  She utilizes and integrates manual therapy, exercise prescription, acupuncture and education into her treatments. 

Angela is a successful triathlete, having completed Ironman Canada twice and qualifying for the Ironman World Championship.  As well as being a mother, she continues to swim, bike, run and compete in smaller races.

 
JON FROESE, B.Sc.(Kin), M.Sc.(P.T.) - Registered Physiotherapist                                  

JonJon obtained his Master’s of Physiotherapy from the University of Alberta in 2006 and completed his Bachelor of Kinesiology at the Simon Fraser University in 1999.  Since then he has continued to take post graduate training in Manual and Manipulative Therapy through the Canadian Physiotherapy’s Orthopaedic division and successfully completed the Intermediate Exam in 2010, as well as going on to take Level 4 and 5 which includes spinal manipulation. 

Jon has experience in all orthopaedic injuries including work, sports and motor vehicle.  He utilizes and integrates manual therapy, exercise prescription and education into his treatments.

Jon enjoys outdoor sports such as mountain biking and hiking, as well as golf.

 
KERRI-ANN HUCK, B.Kin, M.PT. - Registered Physiotherapist                                   

Kerri-AnnKerri graduated from the University of British Columbia in November 2009 with a Master’s of Physiotherapy Degree.  Prior to this, she completed a Bachelor of Kinesiology from the University of the Fraser Valley in 2005, and worked as a Registered Kinesiologist on injury rehabilitation programs.  As a kinesiologist, Kerri became a certified Osteofit Instructor, BCRPA Personal Trainer and Matheson Functional Capacity Evaluator for Occupational Rehabilitation.  Kerri is currently working on completing her Level 3 in Orthopaedic manipulation and plans to complete Mulligan Concept & Acupuncture training to further complement her orthopaedic skills.  Kerri has extensive knowledge working with functional return to sport and activity rehabilitation following MVA’s and work related injuries, exercise prescription, posture re-education and injury prevention.  She has a special interest in treating sports injuries, women’s health issues and loves working with pediatric and elderly populations.

Kerri spends her free time outdoors in the mountains rock-climbing, back country skiing or on the trails running, hiking and mountain biking.  She loves to take advantage of the BC mountain terrain as a competitor in road and off road events of various distances including marathons, triathlons and adventure races.  She is also a Level 1 Crossfit Instructor with a Movement & Mobility Specialty Certification and coaches/trains in her spare time at Crossfit Chilliwack.

 
JOSHUA JURY, MAST. MT, MPT (Grad Entry) B.Sc. (Ex. Rehab) Hons - Registered Physiotherapist

JoshuaJoshua hails from Perth, Western Australia and the lure of mountains, snow and rain secured his position at Fraser Valley Physiotherapy in February 2010.

Joshua has studied extensively; finalizing his Honours in Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation in 2001 before completing his Graduate Entry Masters at Curtin University in 2006.  He promptly took up a position in private practice and was the head Physiotherapist for the University Soccer Team and Newman Australian Rules Football (AFL) Team, and assistant Physiotherapist for the Western Australia Ballet Company. 

Joshua worked in Edmonton in 2007 and upon his return, completed his Masters of Physiotherapy (Manual Therapy) at the University of Western Australia – which had an emphasis on spinal assessment, treatment and joint manipulation.  He has continued to update his skills and knowledge with a wide range of professional development courses from Mulligan based courses to tendinopathic and shoulder courses as well as conducting in house/practice continuing education sessions.

He is particularly interested in spinal injuries and sports related conditions, and always enjoys a challenge.  Joshua is looking forward to exploring all of what the Fraser Valley has to offer.

 
MATTHEW LOCK, B.Sc. (P.T.) - Registered Physiotherapist                                  

MatthewMatthew graduated from the University of South Australia in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy.  Through the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, Matthew has completed the Level 3 Manual Therapy courses and participates in ongoing continuing education. 

Combining a mixture of manual therapy, exercise and education, he enjoys treating a wide variety of work and sports / activity injuries and working with a diverse age group. 

Personally enjoying the great outdoors of Chilliwack, he pursues both hiking and mountain biking. 

 

 
JEREMY McAllister, B.Sc. (P.T.) - Registered Physiotherapist, Custom Orthotics & Orthopaedic Bracing

JeremyJeremy is a graduate of the University of British Columbia Rehabilitation Medicine class of 1996.  He has been an associate with Fraser Valley Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre since that time. 

His diverse post graduate educational background and experience includes orthopaedic and sports physiotherapy, custom orthotic prescription and casting, custom knee bracing, industrial rehabilitation and functional capacity evaluation.

Jeremy’s other interests include landscaping, construction, music and spending time with his wife and three children.

 

 
ANDREA NORTHCOTT, B.Sc. (P.T.) - Registered Physiotherapist                                   

AndreaAndrea graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2005 with a Bachelors Degree in Physical Therapy.  She has completed numerous post-graduate courses and is a Certified Level 3 Orthopaedic Manual Therapist. 

Currently, she divides her time between private orthopaedic clients and WorkSafe BC’s Occupational Rehabilitation programs. She utilizes and integrates manual therapy, soft tissue techniques, exercise prescription, taping and education into her treatments at Fraser Valley Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre, where she has been a staff Physiotherapist since 2006.

Andrea has past experience competing at the college level for women’s soccer as well as acting as the UBC Women’s Soccer Team Trainer at the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) level.  She continues to stay active playing soccer as well as a multitude of other sports, including squash, tennis, ball hockey and wake surfing.

 
MARILYN PURDY, B.Kin., M.Sc.(P.T.) - Registered Physiotherapist                                   

MarilynMarilyn received her Master’s of Science degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta in 2010, and is also a graduate of the University of the Fraser Valley with a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology in 2007.  She has gone on to complete certification in Neuro-proprioceptive Taping (NPT) techniques for various sports injuries and plans to complete further training in Manipulative Therapy through the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and certification in Acupuncture through the AFCI. 

Marilyn utilizes a broad range of physiotherapy assessment and treatment techniques including education, active exercise, manual therapy, modalities, Neuro-proprioceptive Taping and soft tissue techniques.

Her recreational interests include snowboarding, wakeboarding, curling and slo pitch.

 
MICHELLE STOLTZ, BPhyst. - Registered Physiotherapist

MichelleMichelle graduated from the University of Pretoria (South Africa) in 2002.  Michelle practiced in South Africa in acute care and private practice before moving to Canada. She started her career in Canada in acute and long term care before she joined the Fraser Valley Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation team in 2007. 

Michelle treats patients with orthopaedic, neurological, sport and work related injuries with a focus on active rehabilitation.  She is currently involved in private practice as well as the return to work programs through WCB, ICBC and other insurance companies.  Her most recent courses include – Management of Chronic Pain and Proprioceptive taping (also known as Kinesio taping).

Outside of work, Michelle is involved in various community activities and great outdoor activities that Chilliwack has to offer, with a special interest in hiking, mountaineering, running, white water rating and skiing.

 
LYNNE SWEETING, DIP., PT., OT. - Registered Physiotherapist, Registered Canadian Acupuncture Foundation

LynneI graduated from University of Toronto in 1972 – last year of the combined program in Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy.  I have worked in B.C. since graduation, treating orthopaedic conditions in out-patient and private clinics.  In 1989, I started acupuncture, completing the program with certification from Dr. Steve Aung’s program of traditional acupuncture, IMS with Chan Grunn, and Acupuncture Foundation of Canada. 

I love the west coast and enjoy tennis, gardening and our cottage on the island.

 

 

  MASSAGE THERAPISTS:
 
BONNIE PETERS, R.M.T. - Registered Massage Therapist                                 

BonnieBonnie is a graduate of the West Coast College of Massage Therapy, British Columbia.  Massage Therapy has been a vital part of British Columbia’s health care system for over 50 years.  British Columbia demands the highest professional standards in North America for registered massage therapists, with a requirement for over 3,000 hours of intensive training.  In 1995, Bonnie began providing massage therapy for many expectant mothers and their resulting babies at her clinic in B.C.  Bonnie’s expertise as a baby massage therapist became well known after developing the Peters technique of abdominal massage for the treatment of infant colic.  Done properly, the Peters technique has seldom failed to bring comfort to a colicky infant.  As demand for Bonnie’s services grew, she realized that the power of touch is most profound when it comes not from a therapist, but from the hands of a loved one.  Bonnie has been sharing her massage techniques through teaching, consulting at neo-natal facilities, numerous articles and television appearances, and through her instructional videos.  Bonnie also treats babies of all ages with the same specialist approach.  

 
GINETTE SIMKIN, R.M.T. - Registered Massage Therapist                                  

GinetteGinette is pleased to be a member of the Fraser Valley Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre.  She believes no one modality of therapy is ideal for all illnesses or injuries.  Therefore, she is excited to be a part of the team of capable health care practitioners.

Ginette graduated from the 3,000 hour Massage Therapy program at Utopia Academy in 2010.  She is dedicated to providing safe and effective massage treatments. 

Her treatments are designed to provide symptom relief, address the root of the problem, restore pain free function and maintain optimal health.  Typically a session will include an assessment, hands on massage, as well as providing and demonstrating home care. 

Her approach is holistic and gentle, she incorporates a variety of massage techniques including swedish massage, myofascial manipulation, muscle energy, active pin and stretch, joint mobilization and trigger point therapy.

 
JOYCE VANDYK, R.M.T. - Registered Massage Therapist                                  

JoyceJoyce is a graduate of Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy in Vernon.  She has been practicing as a Registered Massage Therapist since 2003, and joined the team at Fraser Valley Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre that same year.  She has also had experience working in a Spa environment in both Alberta and B.C.  Post grad training with Dr. Vodder School of North America for Manual Lymphatic Drainage has Joyce certified as a MLD therapist since 2006. 

She favors using Myofascial Release techniques, but also likes to integrate a variety of other soft tissue methods throughout her treatments. 

Improvements to her golf game and fly fishing are ongoing works in progress.

 
ALYSSA WATKINS, R.M.T. - Registered Massage Therapist                                  

AlyssaAlyssa is a graduate from the Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy and has been practicing at both the Sardis and Chilliwack Clinics since 2009. 

She enjoys the variety of client’s needs from acute to chronic pain, sports injuries to car accidents, pre/post natal care, or just the need to de-stress!  Myofascial Release, Trigger-Point Therapy, Muscle Energy Technique, systemic, deep tissue release, stretching and postural exercises are among her favorite methods of treatment. 

In her spare time she enjoys running, snowboarding, traveling and continuously challenging herself to meet new goals!

 
TANYA WICK, R.M.T. - Registered Massage Therapist                                  

TanyaTanya is a graduate of the West Coast Massage Therapy in 2009. 

Varying stress management to injury rehabilitation she utilizes a combination of Swedish massage techniques, trigger point therapy, stretching exercises and deep tissue massage to treat her clients.

Outside the clinic, Tanya enjoys hiking, swimming and traveling.

Dr. ANDREW GAGNON - Chiropractor                                  

AndrewDr. Andrew Gagnon is a graduate of the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College – 1997. 

Dr. Gagnon’s experience includes 14 years of active practice at his Sardis Chiropractic Clinic, as well as 8 years of multidisciplinary care at the Fraser Valley Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre. 

Dr. Gagnon’s clinical experience includes private practice, orthopaedic and sports treatment, with a keen interest in athletic injuries and treatment of elite athletes. 

I have found the combination of spinal manipulation and Myofascial Release Technique to be an effective answer to many troubling injuries.

  OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS:
 
TERRANCE SHEPHERD, M.Sc.(O.T.) - Registered Occupational Therapist

TerranceUpon graduation from a Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Occupational Therapy degree from the University of Manitoba, Terrance moved to the beautiful weather and scenery of Chilliwack in 2007.

Working in the Occupational Rehabilitation 2 Program provides the opportunity to explore people’s work places and job demands, as well as help coordinate the return to work component of the rehabilitation process with consideration to the person, environment and occupation.  Populations include people from ages 18+, with a variety of orthopaedic injuries and the subsequent issues preventing a return to work.

In addition to the hours at work, Terrance enjoys participating with the local search and rescue team, playing hockey or enjoying the rivers and mountains nearby.

  CLINICAL COUNSELLOR:
 
PETER KNOPP, MA., RCC. - Registered Clinical

PeterPeter is a graduate of UBC’s Master’s Program in Counselling Psychology in 1995.  He has worked in Occupational Rehab Programs for 10 years, and in a variety of counseling settings dealing with alcohol and drug, career, family, parenting, marital, stress and anger management issues. 

Peter has had to practice what he preaches since he had surgery for a back injury, and has changed careers several time in his life.  He is enjoying a second marriage of 17 years duration and raising four kids aged 9 to 15.

 

 

  KINESIOLOGISTS:
 
MELANIE BERKIW, B.Sc.Kin. - Kinesiologist

MelanieMelanie is a member of the British Columbia of Kinesiologists (BACK) and has been in the field since completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology at the University of the Fraser Valley in 2007. 

Melanie specializes in Return to Work Programs, Aqua Therapy, and Personal Training/Kinesiology sessions.  She keeps up to date with new developments in kinesiology by actively pursuing further education in the field through courses, workshops and reviewing literature.  Her approach to rehabilitation is caring, educating, empowering and creating practical solutions for her clients to achieve their goals and elevate their quality of life. 

Melanie leads a healthy and active lifestyle that includes running with her dog Drake and weight training.

 
NICKI L. COMPTON, B.Sc.Kin. - Kinesiologist

NickiNicole obtained her Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology from the University of the Fraser Valley in 2003, and her Bachelors Degree in Education from the University of British Columbia in 2004. 

As a kinesiologist at Fraser Valley Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre since 2004, she has had the opportunity to work in the field of Occupational Rehabilitation, perform Functional Capacity Evaluations, provide Return to Work Support Services and assist in the rehabilitation of injured persons following motor vehicle accidents or other sports related trauma through the development and orientation of exercise programs. 

In addition to her role as a Kinesiologist she also provides training to other staff members and ensures the quality of several services provided at Fraser Valley Physiotherapy as a Quality Assurance Coordinator.

 
JEFF DERKSEN, B.Kin. - Kinesiologist

JeffJeff graduated from University of the Fraser Valley with a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and became a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist in 2004.  Most recently, Jeff attended Mount Royal University in Calgary, earning an Advanced Certificate in Athletic Therapy.  Jeff has worked with a variety of rehabilitation programs and athletic training programs since 2004, throughout the Lower Mainland. 

He was born and raised in Chilliwack and grew up participating in a variety of sports, primarily hockey and fastpitch softball.  Jeff has been actively involved in Varsity level Volleyball at Mount Royal University, running off season conditioning programs with a variety of athletes at Chilliwack Senior Secondary School, and supporting the Highroad Academy girls volleyball team with Athletic Therapy services.

His passions include hockey, baseball, reading, traveling and spending time with his family.

 
MIKE FLEMING, B.Kin. - Kinesiologist

MikeMike Fleming obtained his Bachelor of Kinesiology from the University of the Fraser Valley in 2002 and he is a member of the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists. 

With almost 10 years of employment with the Fraser Valley Physio, he has experience working with a broad spectrum of workplace and motor vehicle related injuries.

Specific areas of expertise include worksite evaluation, physical capacity evaluation, ergonomics, occupational biomechanics and exercise prescription. Post degree training includes the Matheson Functional Capacity Evaluator program with various other certifications and courses in pain management, human performance and gait analysis.

He proudly serves as a Fire Fighter with the City of Chilliwack Fire Department.  Mike maintains an active lifestyle including ice hockey, running, mountain biking and kayaking.
 
TARA-LYNN NISBET, B.Kin. - Kinesiologist

Tara-LynnTara-Lynn obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with an extended minor in Psychology from the University of Fraser Valley. 

She is a practicing Kinesiologist member of the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists (BACK) and has been working in the field of active rehabilitation since May 2010.  

As a member of the BCAK, Tara-Lynn has completed the ‘Functional Assessment of the Spine and Extremities’ course.  She is planning to further her education with a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy to become a licensed physiotherapist.

Outside of the clinic, Tara-Lynn enjoys running, weight training and yoga.

 
BERNIE REDDEN, B.Sc.Kin. - Kinesiologist

BernieBernie graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 1993. 

He began working at the Fraser Valley Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre in March of 1999, experienced in Occupational Rehabilitation programs, Functional Capacity Evaluations, Job Demands Analyses and Return to Work Planning.

He enjoys playing many sports including hockey and soccer.  Bernie is also a minor hockey coach and volunteer fire fighter with the Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department.

 

 
TAMARA SOELLNER, B.Sc.Kin. - Kinesiologist

TamaraTamara is a graduate of the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Science Degree majoring in Kinesiology. 

She started working for the Fraser Valley Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre in 1997, and over the years has developed her skills as a kinesiologist while working in the Return to Work programs and rehabilitative exercise programs.  Tamara has attended many post graduate courses including Osteofit training course, Third Age Fitness, Rehabilitative Exercise Therapy, Functional Assessment of the Spine and Extremities, Medical Exercise Therapy, Understanding Spinal Control, Strategic Coaching, Sports First Aid, Whiplash Injuries, Return to Work Toolkit, Motivating Clients to return to Work, RTW for People with Mental Disorders and Best Rehab Approaches for Post Injury/Illness Depression and Anxiety Workshop. 

Tamara enjoys traveling, spending time with her family and playing soccer, volleyball, tennis, basketball and snowboarding/skiing.
  OFFICE MANAGER:
 
JEAN JENNER - Office Manager

JeanJean continues in her 17th year with Fraser Valley Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre.

She maintains an efficient workflow between these two very busy clinics and the 40 team members.  Along with the two Clinic Managers, she uses her organizational and time management skills to help make the workplace a fun but efficient place for clients to come for therapy and receive great customer service.  She helps select the right mix and training of personnel to join the team.  Attends to staff relations,  the coordination of staff scheduling and Rehabilitation Program scheduling of clients,  as well as overseeing the billing in private practice and the  Rehabilitation Program billing, and monthly reconciliations.  She also works closely with the Quality Assurance Coordinator and Financial Controller.  Flexibility, good communication skills and an aptitude for change are requirements for this position, and no day is ever the same at Fraser Valley Physiotherapy.  

After hours, Jean enjoys gardening, traveling and spending time with her husband, 3 grown children, especially her grandson, and friends.
